Rebuilding the Spirit – Creating the Opportunity
A Funding Campaign for the Re Vitalization of Coconut Beach

We wanted to bring everyone up to date on the Mickey Retif and Coconut Beach status. The
hurricane destroyed the vast majority of the complex. As you know the playground is used by
thousands of people and also is a site for Children’s Hospital, The Catholic Archdiocese,
Leukemia Society and The March of Dimes fund raising efforts.

Over the past 20 years we have built the complex at our personal expense with some great
sponsor assistance. Unfortunately there was no way to insure sand, fence, and lighting on the
facility.

There is a great effort to rebuild the complex and with no cost outlay for the City. We have
actually generated for the City and NORD almost $60,000.00 per year from League fees, sales
tax, property tax and rent. We do not believe any other playground in the state pays money
back to their municipality.

We need your help as well to make this endeavor move forward. Thousands of people are
asking for this playground to rebuild for this year's activity. We also provide 50 to 60 summer
jobs for high school and college students. What else could you possibly ask for, a cost free
facility that puts money and jobs back into the City.

We are working to reopen 6 courts for a June 12th summer league. You and your companies'
support will help keep Coconut Beach from becoming another of Katrina’s casualties.
